ABOUT ERICH : I was running a boutique strategy consultancy and decided I needed big-business experience.

I took a role to head up the African operation of an American non-profit organisation. I was the leader of 2,500 people in over 120 locations in nine countries.

My team and I led the organisation to more than 12% growth in a single year, a record which still stands as the organisation's best year since 1983. 

The strategy tools I applied were useful, but I realised it was my coaching approach to leadership that made the difference.
