Appreciating all that is beautiful about you and in your life

In the relationship work that Erich and I do, we talk about a principle called 5:1. This is a concept shared by The Gottman Institute that talks about in healthy relationships there is a 5:1 ratio of appreciations to criticisms. This sets up an abundant emotional bank account and allows the criticism to be heard in a way that is more empowering than when there are no appreciations.
It’s quite a profound insight. Five Appreciations to every One Criticism!
This card inspired me to think about our internal dialogue and our personal emotional bank account and how we can be kinder to ourselves.
Today, and possibly every day - for every critical thought you have of yourself (your inner critic), can your inner cheerleader match that with five acknowledgements of what you have done well.
You are beautiful and you deserve to be valued for your beauty. Let’s start by appreciating all that is beautiful about you and in your life.
